چکیده

This paper contains the modeling of muscle fiber contraction dynamics as a result of electrical stimulation. The novelty of the model is the possibility of running simultaneous analyses of the fiber’s action potential propagation and its biomechanical response. Simulations for different muscle fiber types, stimulus rates and contraction types can be run. The model correctly predicts the occurrence of smooth tetanic contractions due to the expected fusion frequencies and the behavior of the fiber’s elastic elements. It can be used as a base for developing higher dimensional models of motor units or a complete muscle that is stimulated by electrodes.

Real-Time Muscle Deformation via Decoupled Modeling of Solid and Muscle Fiber Mechanics

This paper presents a novel approach for simulating 3D muscle deformations with complex architectures. The approach consists in choosing the best model formulation in terms of computation cost and accuracy, that mixes a volumetric-tissue model based on finite element method (3D FEM), a muscle fiber model (Hill contractile 1D element) and a membrane model accounting for aponeurosis tissue (2D FE...

Dynamic left ventricular elastance: a model for integrating cardiac muscle contraction into ventricular pressure-volume relationships.

To integrate myocardial contractile processes into left ventricular (LV) function, a mathematical model was built. Muscle fiber force was set equal to the product of stiffness and elastic distortion of stiffness elements, i.e., force-bearing cross bridges (XB). Stiffness dynamics arose from recruitment of XB according to the kinetics of myofilament activation and fiber-length changes. Elastic d...

Locomotion as an emergent property of muscle contractile dynamics.

Skeletal muscles share many common, highly conserved features of organization at the molecular and myofilament levels, giving skeletal muscle fibers generally similar and characteristic mechanical and energetic properties; properties well described by classical studies of muscle mechanics and energetics. However, skeletal muscles can differ considerably in architectural design (fiber length, pi...

Detection of the electromechanical delay and its components during voluntary isometric contraction of the quadriceps femoris muscle

Electromechanical delay (EMD) was described as a time elapsed between first trigger and force output. Various results have been reported based on the measurement method with observed inconsistent results when the trigger is elicited by voluntary contraction. However, mechanomyographic (MMG) sensor placed far away on the skin from the contracting muscle was used to detect muscle fiber motion and...
